May 2009

sifoeThe nursery school in Sifoe began with one of the young men in the village, Silvester Gomez, teaching the children in a small room on their family compound. Since then the school has moved to the nearby church building, and a full-time teacher has been found. When Silvester then approached us asking for funds to resit some exams so he can further his education we were keen to help, and have been able to use some of the funds raised by Margaret and her friends in Ireland for this purpose. Silvester is in the process of submitting the relevant forms and studying for the exams which will be in September.

sifoeLast month a group of HopeForAll friends and supporters visited The Gambia to see first hand the work that HFA is involved in - both up country and in the coastal area. Esther Salmon (HFA's UK admin contact) writes about their experience  »

We are really happy to report that we have received funding for Ousman Baldeh's exam fees, and for Fatu Sowe's course at the university. Thank you to the generous donors in the UK!

We are increasingly being asked to assist students at higher education level. ousman

Although the majority of SchoolForAll's work involves sponsoring school children, we also seek to help students at higher education level. Our friend Ousman Baldeh supported himself though secondary school and a technical training course, showing great commitment and initiative on the way. The only thing stopping him from gaining an official engineering qualification now is the lack of fees for the final exams. Can you help? Read his story  »

sifoe school

We have been approached by a group of people in a village called Sifoe, about 30 miles from the capital city Banjul, who are trying to set up a nursery school for needy children in their area. They have formed a committee and at the moment they have one volunteer who teaches when possible in a small room on his family compound. The group are seeking funding for a small building and equipment, and for a teacher's salary. Read their story  »

latest well

After much hard work in the baking hot temperatures of up-country Gambia, the third WaterForAll well in Sabi is now finished, supplying water to a new area of the village. See a video of the final stages of the well being completed   »

Due to changes in the exchange rate over the last few months (the £ has dropped siginificantly against the Gambian dalasi), we need to raise further funds in order to make the final payment to the labourers. If you are able to help then please go to our give page, where you can make a donation by credit card, bank transfer or cheque  »
Every donation counts! Thank you for your help.

March 2008

Our HopeForAll website has been launched, and on 6 April we will officially become a project of UK-based charity Micah's Call International, giving us charitable status in the UK. Water has been struck in the digging of the latest HopeForAll well in Sabi! It's exciting to know that soon there will be fresh clean water available to yet another area of the village.

HopeForAll is really grateful for the fundraising efforts of the Joshua Group in Yapton, West Sussex, who have financed this and many other projects. Find out about them here  »

fatu sowe

Fatu Sowe, the community health nurse in Sabi, began a diploma course in Public Health at the university, which will qualify her more for the job which she has been doing for the past four years. The course is 18 months long, and costs in the region of £600. So far she has one-third of this money. If you would like to help her, let us know. She also needs money for text books as these are not provided.

Meanwhile, Ebrima Bojang is on the last leg of his degree course and will graduate in June. He  has worked extremely hard and achieved consistently high grades. He has managed to do this while also being our SchoolForAll 'co-ordinator'. Read more of Ebrima's story  »

December 2007

The University have asked us to provide a photocopier, and also tables and chairs – the maths department head told us that when they have lectures many of the students have to stand as there are not enough!

Musa Jallow

One of our sponsor students has just won a scholorship to study medicine at the University of The Gambia. His name is Musa Jallow. His fees are being paid for the duration of the course, and he is being helped with costs such as transport to and from the university every day, by the couple who sponsored him through school. Musa is an incredibly hard worker, and we are very proud of his achievement. There are many other students like Musa who are taking part in higher education courses, and need help with funding. If you would like to be involved, please let us know.
